Hi, I'm Zoë.

I started DJing seven years ago, but really I was always the playlist girl - I just loved the dancefloor. It was my first true love. Since then, it’s grown into festivals, events, weddings, and packed dancefloors, and I realised the best nights aren’t just about what you play, but how people feel on the floor.

That’s what inspired You Had To Be There. To help people create nights that are hard to describe, because they’re built on connection, joy, and those shared, nostalgic moments where everyone ends up dancing.

I’m a trained facilitator with a background in community dance, so I know how to bring people onto the floor (without making it weird). Just enough to shift the energy! I love teaching line dancing, mixing in a bit of cheese, classix, and those intergenerational bangers where everyone gets their moment.

My sets lean millennial nostalgia, high energy, and a little chaotic in the best way - 2000s pop, disco, club classics, and the songs you didn’t know you needed until suddenly you can’t sit down.

Not another wedding DJ 💅

I like to mix - thoughtful, long mixes - I am not a jukebox or a glorified playlist. I pride myself on reading the room and shaping the night as it unfolds, so you don’t have to think about it.

I am queer, and this is a queer-friendly space, always.

Everything is curated ahead of time based on your taste, your people, and the kind of night you want to have.

You’ll share your must-plays, your no-go’s, and the overall vibe, and I take it from there.

I love those intergenerational moments... when your friends, your parents, and that one unexpected person are all on the floor at the same time.

Nothing I do is forced, I want to do just enough to bring people in and keep it moving.

On the night, I don’t take requests in the traditional sense, but there’s always a request box for a bit of fun (no guarantees, only good taste).

The goal isn’t to play every song, it’s to create a dancefloor that actually works.
